The second match between India and Sri Lanka went underway today at Dambulla. India had to win this match to level the series. Dhoni won a crucial toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. Zaheer and Praveen Kumar responded to their captain's call by providing early breakthroughs. Sri Lanka were rocked by the Indian pacers especially Zaheer as they were left strangling at 14 for 4. Dilshan and Jayasuriya tried to steady the ship but Zaheer was too hot to handle as he picked up 4 of the top 5 wickets. Dilshan too fell soon and the score was 44 for 6. It looked like Sri Lanka would be bundled out below 100 runs. However both Tushara and Kulasekara played brilliantly and took their team to a respectable total of 142. Tushara was the highest scorer with 44 runs. The Indians then went on to bat and continued their poor display with the bat. They were 16 for 2 at lunch with Pathan and Raina dismissed of the bowling of Kulasekara. Yuvraj and Kohli put on a decent partnership before Mendis broke it. He foxed Yuvraj with his carrom ball yet again. Then came Dhoni who joined Kohli. Both of them tried to play sensibly. However caught in the rush of blood Kohli perished for a well made 37 runs. Thushara made a double strike as he picked up Rohit Sharma as well. Indians were left struggling at 75 for 5. Bandrinath and Dhoni played sensibly. Few wickets fell in the end. However Badrinath ensured that the game was sealed by 3 wickets. Zaheer was named man of the match.
