Pietersen century puts England on top!!!

Posted by Michael Scofield

Resuming play on 49 for 1 England did not have the best of starts on day 2. They lost Bell early when the score was 51. The ominous score 111 famously known as Nelson in England, saw Cook walking back to the Pavilion. Ntini was the only wicket taker as he picked up three scalps. Then captain Pietersen and Collingwood came together and had a good partnership. They put on a century stand. Pietersen completed his first century as captain and was soon out of the bowling of Ntini. Kallis then picked up Flintoff, Ambrose and Collingwood in quick succession. Broad also departed soon. This left England stranded at 263 for 8. Then came Harmison and played a cameo. He scored 49 of just 59 balls with 8 boundaries. Anderson gave him good support before he departed for 13 of the bowling of Harris. Soon Panesar was run out and England were bowled out for 316. This gave England a 122 run lead. When South Africa came into bat for the second time, Smith was dismissed in the very first over for a duck. At stumps South Africa were 37 for 1.
